Default Christine's Newbie Log

Howdy! Thought I'd give this whole weightlifting thing a try. I'm a SHW with a powerlifting background. Learning the O-lifts with the patient help of Coach Mike McKenna (who has talked me into doing the Keystone Games on 7/24... and then the Powerlifting portion on 7/25... oy.)

Waiting on a finalized program from my coach (just started this on 6/29), so for now I'm blatantly stealing the beginner's program from Dan John.

Christine,

Glad to have you here. You could do worse than to listen to Dan John. I look forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks Glenn!

Friday and Saturday are rest days - going to be a particularly busy few nights at work because of the holiday weekend. Got my Do-Wins today, but they're too big . I hear they stretch out even further, so I'm going to ship them back for another pair.

Those are good numbers you have.

Too bad about the shoes but when you get the right pair, they make a huge difference.

Christine,

Glad to see you log here! I will be competing for the first time at the Keystone Games as well ( O-lifts only - no power lifting)!

Between Dan John and Glenn Pendlay, if you're willing to put in the work, the sky's the limit!

Kevin

101 degree day + forgetting to eat = 1,000lb immobile legs glued to the platform. Today felt like it was my first day doing this. Not getting under the snatch properly. Not racking the clean properly. All kinds of hand position issues with the jerk. Le sigh.

Weight in lbs.

Snatch
55 x 2
65 x 2
75 x 2
85 x 2
90 x 2 -- snappy!
100 x 2 -- loopy, slow, and crashy!
105 x 2
85 x 2

Cleans
85 x 1
85 x 1
95 x 1
95 x 1
100 x 1
100 x 1
105 x 1
115 x 1

OH Squat
55 x 3
60 x 3
65 x 3

Swiss Ball Sit ups
30
20

Notes:
Dropped down to a lower weight for the last set of snatches because I wanted to end on a snappy I-know-how-to-do-this note. Still working on the catch, the heavier weight was kind of loopy and slow, and then crashing on me at the top.

Rack position in the clean is improving as far as elbow position, but I feel that where I'm racking it now I probably couldn't jerk it without nailing myself in the chin.

OH Squat - heels coming up. Properly fitting Oly shoes will fix this, I think.
