Hello all!

I've been doing the lifts since may 2009,om my first meet did 57kgsnatch/82kgc&jerk at 77kg,being already a master(36years).Back in may 2011 did 73/93,weighing 78kg but i'm stuck since then,i even lowered my total by 8kg in november.
I'll have a meet in April, the remainder of the year i'm thinking of dropping the lifts and focus on a more strength orientated routine, something like Texas or 5/3/1,as i think my strength and skinny body(185cm) is holding me of more progress, technically of course i could be better but i think i'm ok for a self-taugth lifter.
I'm also not allowed to drop the weigths at my gym and this is a big pain in the ass;if you are going to say to change gyms, there aren't any oly lifting friendly in my town,i had to buy the bumpers.
In january 2013 i would be competing again,Master Nationals.
Have any of you tried this kind of "strategy" and what kind of results it gave to you??

Thank you

Helder

i am 100% convinced that for a masters lifter of ok but not top level quality-you can train clean&jerk in a commercial gym and get good results as you can do power cleans or full cleans and jerks from the rack-or even push presses and at a meet you can still do ok with the c&j-but its impossible almost to improve on snatch without being able to drop a few-or many! snatch defo needs lots of repetition work-singles or doubles repeated ad infinitum! practice practice-and obviously nearer your max limit kg-you are gonna have to drop that bar

I'll have to agree with that.. from personal experience. :(

Yes. I think the best annual program for a Master's lifter is to have various cycles with various emphasis. These cycles can be adjusted for specific training goals, meet preparation or life (which is the 10,000lb elephant in the room for a master's lifter).

If you wanted a strength program, 5/3/1 is probably better then the TM. Justin L from 70s Big wrote a book on the TM and he wrote a blog post stating 5/3/1 is probably better for the master's lifter. I bought the TM e-book and did a modified 5/3/1 for weightlifting. I could not do the TM, but my modified 5/3/1 was followed by a cycle where I finally snatched 100kg (a 2 year long term goal). Good luck.
