My interest lately has turned towards simplicity. I mean, keeping things really, really simple.

I'd like to hear your take on the simplest approach towards building the most amount of strength on the big lifts. This is not sport specific stuff, just general training.

Here's my take...

1. I've always loved a 3 week block, followed by a week of unloading.

2. I like starting too light on week 1, but then "ramping" up to a heavy work set by the third week. Any rep scheme will do, but 5's or 3's are the focus. The hope is that you can grab little pr's in each rep range from block to block.

3. I've done entire blocks with just with 5s or 3s, but have worked from 5's to 3's or singles from week to week for variation. Doesn't really seem to matter that much....well, maybe singles will do if you want to test a 1RM.

The trap is always over-analyzing. So what are the progression basics in your real-world, under the bar experience that really matter?
