Hi,

Ive recently added good mornings as part of my work . at the moment i do 2 sets of 8 and will eventually go to 3 sets of 5 .
at the moment i do a slightly pigeon toed , stiff legged straight back good morning and will be aimming to do 50% of my front squat.

what i would like to know is what are the ideal set/rep ranges and form for
this excercise

thanks

Peter

Well, there are a few schools of thought on good mornings.

Some olympic weightlifters will perform them with relatively light weight (around 30-40% of max back squat) for sets of around 5-8, done in a fairly controlled fashion with back going to parallel, knees bent all while staying on the heels of the foot.
I have also very frequently seen them being done explosively using simmilar technique but not going quite as deep and rising up onto the toes at the end of each rep.
Then you have the Westside powerlifters who will do "arch back" good mornings as a max effort exercise, typically using very heavy weight for sets of 1-5 reps and using a much more limited range of motion while maintaining a hard back arch.

For most sports I would probably recommend the first variation of good morning.
