Does anyone have any tips for refining one's mental focus during competition and heavy attempts?
I've been working hard at the mental aspect of weightlifting and training in general for the past year-and-a-half (most self-confidence and not losing it on the platform) and have seen great success. The last issue I'm trying to weed out is plain ol' mental distraction. Often when I step on the platform and clear my head, by the time my hands are on the bar I'm thinking about what I did at work or what the rest of my workout will be that night or what I'm having for dinner. A lot of random nonsense that isn't messing with my self-confidence but is diverting my focus and intensity from where it needs to be.
What have you done to hone this aspect of your training? Do you have any tricks for quieting the events of the day in your head once training's begun?
